10 Ways to Find Balance.

by Goddess Lalita

The study and practice of tantra revolves around maintaining a state of balance as a basis for fulfilling our basic human needs. There are many ways to acheive this but eventually, it all comes down to finding what makes you feel whole and content. For some, this might involve dedicating time to meditation and yoga. For others, it could mean spending time with family and friends. Or perhaps taking a little time for yourself each day to do what you love. No matter what it is, finding your balance is an important part of living a happy and fulfilled life. So if you’re looking for daily balancing, read on! Here are 10 suggestions.

Breathwork

There are many ways that one can utilize breathing as a means to achieve balance. It can be as simples as sitting in silence for a few minutes every day and focusing on how it enters and leaves the body. Breath is one of our most basic human functions, therefore we often overlook its many inherent values. Intentional and present breathing can increase awareness of the body and mind as it further promotes relaxation and focus and can thus connect one with their innermost needs and wants. One breathing technique that we utilize in Intuitive Tantra deep breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth. As oxygen is drawn in through the inhale, toxins are released through the exhale. This can be done throughout the day with no physical restrictions.

Meditation

The art of meditating is not only beneficial for spiritual growth but it has grounding benefits as well. Meditation provides one with many health benefits which include reduced depression, anxiety, stress and the restoration of mental clarity through mindfulness. Conclusions of a study conducted by  National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) states that “meditation appears to provide an accessible, self-care resource that has potential value for supporting mental health and emotional well-being, behavioral self-regulation, and integrative medical care.” We can focus our mind on what we are doing at home or work. Our productivity and efficiency also increases; it becomes easier to get tasks finished by clearing our minds and increasing our awareness of the world around us.

Yoga, Toning Exercises & Beyond

Another way to find balance is through practicing yoga or other muscle toning exercises such as pilates. They are known for their variety of physical health benefits including flexibility, balance, strength, and much more. The benefits also extend beyond optimal physical conditions as well and can help one achieve an innate sense of inner peace. Conscious breathing and meditation are essential to yogic practice and as we mentioned in the sections above, they also help maintain mental and emotional support which will increase your awareness of energy within your body helping you to feel more connected spiritually.

Journaling

There is something healing and transformative about expressing thoughts and feelings on an external medium. Journaling offers energetic relief and the potential to view our world from a different perspective. It provides an avenue for keeping track of goals and accomplishments. It also enhances the ability to count blessings in times of struggle by recording them in gratitude lists (an exercise where one writes down everything they are grateful for). Alternatives to using a pen or pencil and paper include audio and visual journals available through apps and/or mobile devices. What is important is to find what works for you as long as you can express yourself and document what you are going through.

Hobbies and Pastimes

Every person has a hobby and/or pastime they love. It could be a sport or a form of entertainment such as reading books, watching movies, etc. Its important to find downtime when stressed in order to rest the mind. For those who want an extra challenge try participating in something new! There’s no better way to find inspiration than learning something new to enjoy.

Connect with Loved Ones

Who wants to spend all their time working? There are many benefits related to maintaining responsibilities as a form of self-care; however one should also remember that having fun with friends is also an important part of living a balanced life. It’s nice to go out and enjoy the company of loved ones every once in a while. Spending time laughing, talking and sharing stories can provide you with much needed relaxation that can help balance your mind and spirit.

Spend Time in Nature

Experience a sense of oneness by spending time in nature. There is no better way to strenghten our entire system than to admire beautiful foliage, breathe in fresh oxygen, and clean water into our bodies-just to list a few benefits. It provides all of the needs that we have as living creatures. We also honor ourselves more symbotically by how we respect the outer world. By showing gratitude to nature we not only are grateful for our presence here on Earth, but we extend that respect to future generations. Here are some other benefits to spending time in nature:

• Provides opportunities for relaxation and reflection that are often not found in urban environments.

• Looking at the stars or other natural objects can be a form of meditation that helps clear the mind.

• Going for a walk outside can help increase focus and productivity, while sitting by a river can help reduce anxiety.

Listen to Calming Music

Listening to calming music such as instrumentals, classical music and sound healing can contribute to your sense of well-being. It can soothe the mind and allow for a moment of relaxation in which you can reflect on things that are important. It’s important to pay attention to the type of music we listen to because some songs may give us more energy while others may induce sleepiness; it is up to you as an individual what kind of music works best for you at any given time!

Learn and Manage the Source of Stress and Anxiety

Imbalances can be pinpointed and managed by identifying triggering factors. It is important to remember not to fear the source of stress but rather embrace it as it will motivate us to find a solution. Identifying causes of stress can be difficult for some so keep track of when you are out of balance. You do not have to be alone in this process. There are therapists, counselors and other professionals who have dedicated their careers to addressing these concerns so don’t be afraid to seek out help! As you continue self-evaluating keep the following points in mind:

• Avoid any type of self-judgement. Be kind to youself in action and self-talk.

• Practice relaxation techniques regularly (see all suggestions above).

• It is important to find what works best for you and to stick with it.

• There is no “right” or “wrong” way to manage stress and anxiety, as long as it helps you feel better.

Find Your Center

The “center” of well-being is the point of neutrality, a place of non-judgement and expectation. Its easier to connect with mind, body and spirit and maintain balance. It allows for ease of transitions and productive problem solving because we are able to address life from a clear and organic viewpoint. Sometimes life can get hectic and its easy to get overwhelmed, but finding your center can help you address life from an objective point of view as you compartmentalize all of its moving parts from your inner peace. By functioning from a place of centeredness we not only balance our lives but make the most out of our time here on Earth! This enables us to live and share a joyful life with the world around us.
